hi! first time making an original post in like years. anyways

this is my canon timeline for dragon age, written out in prep for veilguard's release :> larger versions of the busts, plus assorted rambling, below the cut.

SARRELAN TABRIS: as im writing this post my partner looked over, saw sarrelan, and went "thats my fuckign WIFE". so shes highly reviewed

Sarrelan is the Warden-Commander and Hero of Ferelden, the woman who killed the Archdemon, ended the Fifth Blight, Arlessa of Amaranthine, and winner of Vigil's Keep's Biggest Bitch award twenty-two years and counting. she is full to the brim with autism, which is part of the reason she looks so. mad. all of the time. she doesn't mean to, she just does not Emote well and so comes off as being more aggressive than she actually is. now don't get her wrong, she is also full of rage and kind of jumps to violence as a first resort, but she is capable of listening to people and generally does like people, like she thinks good people deserve things and wants to give them good things. she just never looks like she does.

she's got kind of an immediate bond with Alistair, something to be said about him being basically the first human man who's ever treated her with respect and actually listened to her when she takes control of a situation. ive seen interesting commentary out there about how alistair immediately turns control of the situation over to the HoF and how that can be really disorienting/frustrating/upsetting for some characters, but its kind of the opposite for sarrelan. shes had almost two decades of experience getting into shit with her cousins, shes used to taking charge and she likes having that control, and its a relief that alistair doesn't try to fight her on it.

zevran is a little more rough-going to start as they're both very different people - zevran is used to reading more into people's body language, and sarrelan's body language is very disassociated from her actual emotions, so he does spend a good while thinking he's in like Imminent Danger while sarrelan's in the corner trying to figure out if she actually Likes this guy flirting with her. (she does).

zevran semi-accidentially insinuates himself in alistair and sarrelan's relationship right after it starts, half-jokingly offering to have a threesome to help them both get over their nerves of losing their virginity, and then oops oh no they all caught feelings and no one knows how to deal with it. they only figure their shit out a few days before the battle of denerim and it's as sarrelan is On Top of the archdemon, getting ready to kill it, still unsure if Morrigan's ritual will work and if she'll even survive this, that she's able to tell them she loves them.

zevran's earring is the only piercing she has, and she treasures it greatly. she's a two handed warrior and has a sword bigger than herself. shes also gone 1v1 with an orge alpha and survived. canonically. id say i have video proof but i dont. just trust me bro

CONNOR HAWKE: local man made of 20 different types of trauma in a cool chestplate

connor is actually adopted into the hawke family! long story short, he was born in kirkwall and was taken to the circle there, and only left because his enchanters conspired to smuggle him out after one of the templars assaulted him. he fled to ferelden where he came across the hawke family, who took him and his daughter in and helped him fake a new identity with them. he's not happy to be back in kirkwall, but the city is a part of him whether he likes it or not - it's eating him alive but without it, he doesn't feel like himself. he's a very dedicated and loyal person, usually to his detriment, but he feels like he can't keep running from the threat of the templars anymore, he has to do something to fix this makerdamned city now.

he's got Something going on with the whole kirkwall crew, it just never really expands into anything for years because he's basically married to the job. but his life has been intertwined with these people's since he met them, and at a certain point all of those feelings mesh together and he's sitting there at wicked grace night and realizes he might be In Love with all of them, and then he has to make a hasty exit before he has a complete and total breakdown over it. during the timespan of DA2, anders is really the only person he has a romantic relationship with, because justice is getting tired of anders holding himself back from maybe the one other man in kirkwall who would support him no matter what, and kisses connor like the day before he has to leave on a longer quest to the sundermount. connor makes them discuss their feelings afterwards and they end up figuring it out, although the rest of the kirkcule are like. still fucking each other and are by no means exclusive at this point. the rest of them just never talk about it, because things go downhill in act 2 FAST. like, within a month he loses his mother, almost gets dragged back to the circle, has to fake his daughter's death, completely destroys his relationship with carver, and almost dies fighting the arishok.

the connor hawke of reality and the Champion of Kirkwall that gets immortalized by varric are two very different people - basically by the time that connor gets the name of Champion, he's already been working on maintaining a public persona that he just calls Hawke, and after everything with his daughter being sent away, he never lets that mask down again. he really considers Hawke to be a completely different person to Connor, and varric tries to help cement that difference in the Tale of the Champion. Hawke's story is that he was always Ferelden, his daughter was adopted and really did die, and he had no idea anders was getting so radical until the moment the chantry exploded - connor's story is that from the moment he sent Lila away, he was planning to find some way to take down Meredith.

he and anders spend a lot of time inbetween acts 2-3 trying to figure out more peaceful ways to address the chantry and bring some - any - oversight to the circles, but when all of that fails, they finally resort to plan dynamite. when all is said and done, they go to amaranthine to be reunited with lila, and then go on the run trying to help the mages break out of the circles and evade the templars. when he hears that varric was kidnapped by cassandra and that she's looking for him to speak at the conclave, he sees it as an opportunity to make a case for the rebel mages, and goes despite all the warnings not to. he survives in the fade up until the questline where the Herald goes into the fade, finds him alive, and drags him back home to see his daughter again. then he stays in skyhold to basically act as an advisor to her, and when the rest of the kirkcule get their hands on him, it kind of spurs him on to finally address his relationship to the rest of them.

connor is a force mage by default, but given how long he spent in Ferelden living on the run from the templars, he mastered both casting without a staff and fighting without magic. he's both tall and strong, but he manages to avoid scaring people off through sheer Dad energy.

LILA HAWKE: hey look theres that daughter we've been talking about

Lila is very much her father's daughter, but she doesn't have his same talent for acting calm or friendly, if she doesn't like you she Will tell you to your face and she will not work with you. (cullen.) after hawke's "death" at the conclave, she kind of becomes the defacto leader of the rebel mages, which is definitely a normal amount of responsibility for a twenty-one year old struggling with ongoing mental health issues and overwhelming grief to handle. shes doing great

(slight detour: to address some of the weirdness with DAI's timelines im having there be basically 3 factions of mages in the rebellion: the Circle mages, who want to remain under the circles with the exact same setup as before; the College mages, who like the idea of having their own spaces and want some oversight, but also some oversight of the oversight to address the rampant abuses of powers; and the Hawkes, the rebel mages who want no circles and no templars and the ability to live their lives in the same communities as non-mages. the Circle mages mostly look to Vivienne for leadership, the College mages are rallied behind Fiona, and the Hawkes were roaming the continent with Connor, now working loosely with the Inquisition with Lila.)

she's got some health issues - she's shorter than varric by a few inches despite being a human, she has moderate asthma, and semi-regular psychotic episodes, mostly auditory/visual hallucinations and paranoid episodes. bubba, the family mabari, acts as a service dog for her when he isn't doing the same for connor, and i imagine at some point between inquisition and veilguard, she has her own mabari who works full-time as her service dog.

she is one of the co-inquisitors for DAI, but she is not the herald of Andraste; she wasn't actually at the conclave when it exploded, she was down in haven with varric and anders, but she kind of gets roped into everything because cassandra says "youre a hawke, you're going to get involved anyways" and lila... can't really argue with that, she's just mad that cassandra was right. arisas is the diplomatic one, she's the more experienced one, and they honestly balance each other out really well. it frustrates her to no end that arisas is almost literally twice her height.

lila kind of regards her time in amaranthine as the best of a really, really shitty situation - she hates that she lost so much time with her father, that her teenage years were so tumultuous and that she had so many milestones of her life and she couldn't talk to her father about them, she never got to introduce her first girlfriend to him, she had to come out to him over letters, and while she has a lot of respect for the wardens in amaranthine and appreciates them for taking her in with no questions asked, she hates that she lives in a world where that had to happen in the first place. sarrelan is the person who made her realize she might be kind of butch, and zevran taught her how to actually fight instead of just using her magic for experimentation. connor never kept a grimoire after fleeing kirkwall (too obvious and too much evidence, especially if it got lost or stolen), but she does, and it's filled to the brim with notes and homebrewed spells.

ARISAS ADAAR: please help him he is too young for this

arisas is by far the youngest person to get involved in a major political conflict in my canon - he turns 16 during the events of DAI - and he is trying so hard to keep people from learning that information. he grew up in tevinter, taken there from par vollen as a very young child, and doesn't have the greatest grasp of southern mage/templar politics and is very confused by everything happening at the start of the game. he joined with a mercenary company as his first job, and was only with them for a few weeks before they got hired for the conclave, and he was Not getting paid enough to get a crash course in the differences between southern mages and tevinter mages.

ari is a lot more hesitant / cautious than lila is, partially because he has an anxiety disorder, and partially because he just knows a lot less about the south than she does. if it were up to him, he would not be in charge of this mess, but he's the one with the Anchor so he kind of has to be. he takes to the diplomacy pretty well, and he at least always finishes the paperwork that josephine sets in front of him (unlike liia, who will get distracted and go do something else halfway through). it does mean that he is constantly sleep deprived

inquisition is probably his first big exposure to a lot of queer people in very close proximity to him - between lila, leliana, dorian, and bull, it's the first time that he's really considered that people could be queer, much less trans, and it starts to make him question some things that he really doesn't have time to question. and, as the game continues, it doesnt really seem like questioning it will do him any good, as the inquisition continues to erase him and fill in the blanks with the Herald of Andraste, so he basically goes "even if i am queer, looking into it now will do me no good, because no one here is going to listen or respect that" and continues on like normal. (post canon he does figure some shit out, although he still uses he/him pronouns).

ari looks up to bull a lot, at first because he's a qunari who actually follows the qun, and ari is very curious and kind of wants bull to take him under his wing and become a father figure to him; but when bull becomes tal-vashoth and leaves the qun, ari tries to reassure him that he's the same man regardless of the identity he ties himself to, and that there's no shame in acting outside of the qun if it means protecting the people he cares about. bull in turn tries to help ari come out of his shell and maintain his sense of self in the midst of everything that comes with being the herald.

he struggles a LOT with having his identity erased by the inquisition, being both revered and reviled and rewritten with every step he takes. it makes him feel just thorougly inhuman and alone, and causes a mental breakdown after trespasser. he tries to stay in politics for a few years post canon, tries to help dorian with reforming tevinter with all this newfound influence he has, but being in the spotlight so much is detrimental to his heath, and he ends up having an early retirement in his mid-20s. he moves to kirkwall and raises nugs. this is the greatest his life has ever been.

NOPE! this girl has 0 political skill, it's a wonder she had allies at all during the Blight. She is a good smooth talker but GODS THE GAME WOULD KILL HER!!!

5. attitude towards the Chantry?

Positive-ish. She respects the chantry, she was raised Andrastian and has spent time reading every book on the subject. She's more critical of the chantry at time, but overall thinks it can serve a good purpose.

7. if they had to choose one person most important to them, who would that be?

Oh Leliana for sure. Emira 'Not to be a lesbian but oh my god' Tabris loves her wife to death. They are extremely fucking insufferable and i love them. Leli and Em have a really really strong bond, neither of them do relationships casually. And while Emira definitely has friends that mean a shit ton to her as well, no one really tops Leliana. (Leliana tops Emira if anything-- [gets shot])

8. who do they hate the most, and do they have an arch-nemesis?

Loghain was definitely her arch-nemesis, but the person she hates the most even far long after the fact is Vaughan. Don't think that needs an explanation. She'd kill him ten times over if she could.

9. what is their love language? 

Hmmm she is a sucker for physical touch. Casually leaning on someone, hugs, kisses, sex, she's pretty big on it. She likes being physically close to those she loves.

13. their thoughts on the Grey Warden order?

Meh. It's fine, she doesn't like being a Warden, but she does feel good about what she's doing. She thinks it's a good order, just wishes she didn't have to be part of it.

Shianni!!!!! The cousin ever!! they've been close since they were kids, and even get matching tattoos when older. they're very close. And they definitely are one of each other's best friends.

15. preferred weapon of choice?

17. what were they like as a child?

Pretty calm and well-behaved generally, but she definitely had a snark. She also really liked scrapping, she used to wrestle with Adaia a whole lot, and she definitely enjoyed being active. Active and calm kid generally

19. are they afraid of death?

No, but she is afraid of how she'd die. The calling terrifies her, the act of dying in battle terrifies her. Dying scares her, death itself doesn't.

21. what is their biggest regret?

Hm. Probably not being able to live the life she wanted to live. Part of her regrets the mere fact that she had to become a Warden, even if it ended up being a choice that led to meeting the best people she knows. She can't shake the feeling of wrongness from it at times.

25. what did they plan for their life to look like before the events of the game happened?

Emira thought she'd get married off to Nelaros, maybe have a child or two. (She's a lesbian but.. well she can do that if she must.) She'd probably just stay in the alienage with her family, raise a couple of kids, and just... live a pretty mundane life. She would've loved to get a dog though.

26. do they get a happy ending?

MAYBE. If she's found a cure to the calling, then yes. She'd live in lesbian heaven with her pope wife. Otherwise she's definitely dead in like DA:TV. OOPSIES

dude, i know that people have talked about this before but the dynamics of having all the origins in dao be in the same party would go crazyyyyyy like

number one dynamic to me tho is aeducan vs brosca, like we were nearly sibling inlaws, i hate and resent you for having everything i never could have and keeping people like me in the dirt, i may not even hate you but i do instinctively regard you as less of a person becuz you are from a lower caste than me, we are now in the same boat of facing discrimination from the new world we find ourselves in but one of us is far more used to the feeling, were the only ones who understand the anxiety and nausea of being above ground, were both dead people walking twice over to our homeland and the new one we find ourselves in

another good one is tabris vs cousland, like cousland looks like the people who abuse and terrorize the community tabris grew up in wether or not they act like other nobles, cousland is forced to see the unfairness of the country they live in even if they dont want to, they both want to kill the same man who is responsible for hurting and killing their respective families one way or another,

and then we have tabris and mahariel, two completely differing experiences as an elf in fereldan, one may not have even believed people like the other existed, maybe they fantasized the otjer existed maybe they shunned the idea becuz they thought it unfair the idealized reality of freedom the other had, and the other feels nothing but sympathy, regardless they both stick together becuz its them against everyone else in a world so hostile to them, not to mention bow mahariel would have just lost their best friend amd entire community the only people theyve ever known that arent hostile to them, theyd aant to cling to whoever is like them, keep a sense of commu ity with people they may co sider to be their people

and then you throw surana into that mix, whos been alienated from elf as an identity becuz circle mage over shadowed any new identity from them, neither city nor dalish, do they long to connect with tabris and mahariel? have they heard about the dalish having mages? theyd prob have read more about the dalish than city elves, but maybe they have memories of living in the city? maybe they dont identify with elf at all and purely think of themself as amage and would rather stick with amell, theyre the only other person who would understand the fear of the outside world, the unfamiliarity the new, the search for familiar even if it brings nothing but memories, at least they could share them together, or maybe they were from seperate mindsets about the circles? do they hate eachother, would that be enough to keep them away from eachother?

theres so many more cross relationships and how theyd interact and ive got my own specific dynamics i have as canon in my own universe since chose to believe all the origins get to survive cuz i think its fun :)

3. Opinion on blood magic

surana finds blood magic intriguing but distasteful for himself. he didn't mind jowan being a blood mage after he got over the initial shock (rarely is what the templar said true) but hes wary. both because of the history he's heard and also for himself specifically (he doesn't trust himself with the power to hurt himself or others). (battlemage/arcane warrior)

hawke had never met a blood mage before merrill (that he knew of, malcolm having used blood magic before) and after merrill never met a blood mage he liked. unfortunately i think merrill reads as an exception to him rather than the rules being faulty themselves. while he doesnt mind merrill taking some of his own blood/power, he finds it hard to reckon with the issues of hurt/consent otherwise. he prefers magic that's very. overt and representative. theres no underlying tricks, just raw power. plus after what happens to his mother, he REALLY ends up with a kneejerk negative reaction to anyone but merrill using it. (lightning/force mage).

Samahl is wary of anything that templars use or focus on (blood magic being some of both). He has a weak stomach AND he doesn't trust the majority of blood mages (that he's met or heard of), so he would never want to use it himself. he would be okay with mages using it ethically as long as they kept it away from him. also despite being a dorianmancer the weak stomach applies to necromancy too <3 sorry dorian. (rift mage)

otherwise, positive to negative: amell (blood mage), cousland (reaver. also bloodfreak), 2nd hawke (also reaver. also merrillmancer), mahariel (merrill stan/romancer), aeducan, tabris, brosca, and kadan adaar (despite romancing a reaver (bull)).

7. if they had to choose one person most important to them, who would that be?

in the interest of being interesting about these i will pick one other person Besides their romantic partner. bc they are all very in love.

surana (romanced zevran): alistair. besties for the resties.

hawke (romanced fenris): varric and carver duel for this honor in his head every day. the rankings can shift depending on the moment (reread a bit in the tale of the champion where varric besmirched him. remembered carver being a cheeky bastard. etc). fenris understands being outranked by sibling concern or varrichawke bromance (never lasts long). EDIT: ALSO MY FRIENDS INQUISITOR MYRNA. he loves her very very much forever. fenris understands this less but hes shrugging

samahl (romanced dorian, as mentioned): its solas unfortunately. its solas. like 3 of his whole songs on his playlist are about solas. its the friend/trusted advisor/mentor thing. and then solas doesnt even think of him as a real person (or at least tries not to). its crushing. he didn't even care about the arm.

8. Who do they hate the most, and do they have an arch-nemesis?

surana cant find it in himself to HATE loghain, but he puts up an effort for alistair. boring answer but he mostly hates Systems rather than individuals - the moment he gains personal knowledge of someone and their motivations he can't Wholly hate them anymore. even taliesin who he was VERY ready to hurt before he could hurt zevran, he heard him and knew that he couldn't hate him. how could he hate anyone else who loved zevran. who WAS zevran even a little. he even feels bad for killing arl howe after nathaniel shows up (not enough to regret it, but still)

hawke - meredith. danarius. cullen. the lack of wind on a hot day. as a joke he'll be nemeses with anyone but for REAL its people with power who abuse it, and cullen because of that and also personal vendetta. cullen broke his nose AGAIN.

samahl doesn't hate anybody (too tired) while also hating everybody who's convenient. blames cullen in the universe in which his clan dies (not real to me). blames corypheus blames samson blames cassandra blames solas. unfortunately what this all means is that he hates and blames himself. he cant even be mad at solas in the end. he couldnt even be mad at corypheus or the nightmare or alexius. but hes very normal about it i promise.

notable mention to mahariel who hates duncan the most (but is nice in front of alistair, who is grieving).

13. their thoughts on the Grey Warden order?

surana is. fine with them. he wouldnt have chosen to be a grey warden and he doesnt particularly like doing it, but he doesnt begrudge them for needing help during a blight - especially after duncan and all those with him died during ostagar. after the blight its.. something to do. and he might as well make it worth it that he's SO blighted - that he'll die sooner rather than later - so that nobody else has to.

Hawke thinks theyre overrated - he's killed a LOT of darkspawn thank youuuuu and they also failed to keep corypheus down (not that he did any better). hes very bitter at the wardens for keeping their secrets about the calling and ALSO bitter that carver seems to be enjoying life more in their ranks than anytime with him. or at least that he doesnt hear about it when he isn't. scared for his dumb baby brother all the time and he doesnt even call.

samahl respects what they do and what theyve done, but doesnt care to think of them as infallible. because they arent! hes a little irritated when blackwall goes on but that becomes mostly amusement once he finds out about blackwalls whole thing. he does NOT like what the weisshaupt wardens did, but that doesn't mean the whole organization is busted - just that there shouldn't be room for ALL of these types of things to happen (corypheus, weisshaupt, hawke.). he actually really loves the history though, and didn't mind hearing blackwall talk about it when it was history rather than just flattering. (would have a hero thing about surana WAY more than he did hawke. sorry hawke).

EDIT: that was not the weisshaupt wardens that was the uhhh. whoever the here lies the abyss ones were. you know.

21. what is their biggest regret?

surana doesnt WISH he'd never been a grey warden - someone had to defeat the archdemon - but he does regret that he'll have to leave zevran behind one day. i imagine theyre looking for a cure, but not hard. theyve discussed this at length. (i wrote a little thing once of surana informing zevran about the whole calling thing, but its VERY old now).

hawke. his whole family. kirkwall. is everything youve ever done a regret?. he regrets the fact that anders didnt come to him and let him say how fucking stupid the bombing was before he did it. he would have helped him with ANYTHING else. he regrets what happened to his sister, his mother, to carver even if he is still alive. to his father, at the very beginning. letting carver go to ostagar alone. not saying anything good enough to have his friends believe in him enough to trust him. merrill's clan hating her in part because of him. not being enough for anyone to stay for, after the fact. holding fenris there (false) when he was the exception. letting varric write that fucking book about him. not going when varric first told him they were looking for him, and going when it meant he would die. not being able to sit still without a sword to throw himself on.

samahl. solas again. dorian leaving too, but thats him being so strong and supporting his lover from afar. but not being enough for solas to reconsider what he was doing? LOGICALLY he knows it wasnt about him but who gives a shit what logic says.

26. Do they get a happy ending?

Surana. happy-ish? defeated TWO world disasters i think he deserves to be zevrans trophy wife dealing with His stuff for a little while. he's going to die from blight any day now probably irt da4 but hes in love and still talks to his friends if he can. he makes sigrun stay closeby so he can remind her not to die before him. she lets him <33.

HAWKE lives in purgatory right now. both because there are two different timelines (the one i played vs the one i wrote with my friend + her inquisitor). in the first hes alive and safe from the fade. deeply depressed but living with fenris and dog and letters from his People and killing slavers. what more could a guy ask for at the end of the day. in the OTHER timeline he gets left in the fade. BUTTTT i imagine his friends band together to get him out. because i love. reforming the team. and also he needs to deal with that deep depression by living through more struggles. his favorite. fenris might kill him when theyre all done saving him though.

samahl.... we'll see wont we. hes fine with no arm hes.. less fine with dorian not being there. but hes got his friends even if he's disbanded the inquisition. he gets to go back to his clan and cry into the keepers arms for a minute. he gets to help teach the kids how to control their magic, even if his has suffered from . probably no longer being a rift mage? he gets to LIVE and not be under 2390248 stresses every day. until datv. but whateverrr hes chillin rn. sneaking into dorians house every now and then and helping his clan and helping the red jennies (SERA..) and giving leliana (divine in his timeline) advice he is NOT qualified to give. helping cassandra undo tranquility. its a life and its to be had.

shoutout to mahariel for either dying or becoming a father (accident and not even his) or being in a strange relationship with merrill and/or tamlen and/or tamlens ghost. shoutout to tabris for having gay sex on the daily with the new divine. shoutout to brosca for the horrors of motherhood to a god souled son. she followed morrigan and never regretted it but went. god. hes a little weird isnt he (full of love). shoutout to cousland for their WEIRD fucking thing with both anora (queen) and nathaniel (queen). shoutout to hawke 2 for being 1 ingredient in a very isabela and merrill sandwich for the rest of forever and not even coming when the inquisition called.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I COUDLI GO OFF BAOUT HIM FOR HOURS. ok well, well, well , um, um aha, so he is the product of adams flesh and human dna mixed! which is why hes more humanoid than the other angels. hes not human so he finds them so fascinating! and when he is. well. alive for the first time everything is so new to him, and he slowly learns to feel, stuff like anger and compassion and love are things that were so new to him! love especially is a big thing he deals with in the eva manga, as well as being blunt and not quite aware of when he hurts peoples feelings. there arent different kaworus every kaworu has the past kaworus memories in them, including how he dies! kaworu is very very sweet and was originally planned to have a black cat! he can float cuz its one of his angel powers, but he doesnt rly have anything aside from that so its not like hes op or something. he’s the fifth pilot and wouldve been the fourth if they hadnt recruited touji before him! heres a fun fact from the wiki:Gainax renders his name in Romaji as "Kaworu," not "Kaoru" as would be given by most romanization schemes. The reasons for the difference in the naming have not been explicitly detailed by the series' creators; one theory is that the name is based on the original kana of the name Kaoru Genji from some anime or manga idk.. he is the oldest pilot in the original anime, 15, unlike shinji, rei and asuka who are all 14! kaworu does not consider himself human despite having a human form and, essentially, being half human- and he refers to humans as lilin, as something bizarre that surprises him. and he really appreciates humanity and its implied he likes to learn abt them!!! i think hed be a big fan of anthropology!!!! he also obviously knows a lot abt music and claims that its one of the best things that lilin created! aside from learning how to play piano himself. again from the wiki: he appears comfortable in his identity (far more than Rei), and also warmer and more emotionally open. However, he does show a detachment from human protocols and shares Rei's tendency to speak in universal rather than personal terms!!!!!! ^_^  also something so annoying is that  sadamoto claims he wrote his relationship with Shinji on the manga as similar to a primary school student to an older, middle school one that would leave a strong impression on the former, prompting him to seek his admiration, not romance?? which makes no sense because trhe whole timein the english translation kaworu talks about love (and talks abt it while awtching romance on tv) and takes the chance he gets to put his mouth on shinjis while hes hyperventilating? and uses it as an excuse to kiss him^??

 it is implied that there are many kaworu clones, but hes a different case than rei, because he learns to express his emotions and what they mean and doesnt bottle them up (but its implied he feels more than he shows, especially when talking to shinji because he doesnt want to upset him, such as having horrible memories of dying and leaving shinji over and over again in 3.0, when he trys to comfort shinji) and in the song sakura nagashi the lyrics are abt shinji grieving after kaworus death in 3.0, and in megumi ogata (shinjis voice actor)s cover, the instruments played are piano and cello- instruments that kaworu and shinji play respectively.

when city elves have opportunity to celebrate, they take it. whether amidst death and destruction or war and sickness, if they have one reason - just one - to take an evening off from the worries and the fighting and the struggling... they take it.

this was truer when soris and shianni’s cousin returned to them. despite having been thought dead at ostagar, despite having been hunted down by loghain’s men day in and day out, elsie tabris was home, and in one piece (if a little worse for wear), and they were going to celebrate.

they were surprised she agreed, however. she had the entire country weighing down on her slender shoulders, and yet she met shianni’s eye and told her yes, cousin, please get me a drink.

soris hurried to set the table while elsie stripped off her armor, tossing it onto her old bed in her old home. it seemed odd, to return after so long, only to see her sheets still in a crumpled mess as though it was still the same day she had left. zevran eyed her, leaning against the wall, an eyebrow raised.

“you don’t wish to be left alone with your... family?” he asked quietly, watching as she tugged her hair out from the knot at the back of her head. “i have no qualms about returning to the palace with the rest of our... em, friends. i’ve been dreaming about eating one of those little fancy sandwiches since i saw them in the kitchens this morning...”

alistair and wynne elected to return to arl eamon, to leave elsie with time to catch up with her cousins and her father. when zevran moved to follow them the first time, she tugged at his sleeve and asked him not to leave. and he complied then, but wasn’t sure if he should continue to do so.

elsie glanced at him, running a hand through her hair. she could tell that he was not asking out of disgust or offense; there was something uncertain in his eyes, growing stronger when his gaze fell upon her family members running about the house. with a smile, she reached down and grabbed his hand, lacing their fingers together.

“i want you to stay,” she murmured, her honeyed gaze meeting his. “if that’s what you want, of course. i do not... want to put any pressure on you.”

“your wish is my command,” he said, his shoulders relaxing somewhat, his lips instinctively moving to press a kiss to her jaw. it was quick, however, as shianni motioned them towards the table and the rest of the family sat down.

“oh, zevran?” she whispered in his ear as they made their way to the table, “try to keep the talking of love-making down to a minimum, okay?”

heaving an exasperated sigh, he rolled his eyes. “if i must,” he responded with great faked reluctance, and she elbowed him in the side to squeeze one last smile out of him before they sat down.

the assassin had seen feasts with course after course and table after table, laden with meats and cheeses and breads. he had seen golden fountains dripping with coloured sauces and bowls full of juices dyed hues brighter than any of the most expensive clothes available in the fereldan capital.

and yet all of those meals paled in comparison to the meager feast set out before him on this table - a piece of meat, shredded into five pieces. a single loaf of bread cut into five slices. a silver, rusting jug of browning water. and, most importantly, woman beside him, her hair loose around her shoulders, her battle-scarred hands reaching for the food with a practiced and polite patience that did not give away her hunger.

the things he wanted to do to her...

“i’m sorry to hear about what’s been happening since i left, soris,” elsie said, breaking the silence, jolting zevran out of his thoughts. “i... i wish there was something i could’ve done.”

“unless you thought your threats would work all the way from ostagar, cousin, i’m not sure there’s anything you could’ve done,” the boy with red hair and wide eyes, named soris, responded. “besides, that’s not the only reason to stay inside the house. everything that’s been going on...”

shianni placed a hand on his shoulder. soris ducked his head, embarrassed. “though now that you’ve come to save us all, i’m certain that the harassment will stop.”

“if not, tell whoever it is that the grey warden who stopped loghain will come for them,” elsie replied, biting off a piece of bread with her teeth and chewing it.

“huh. that’s... a good idea, actually.”

they ate what little food they had in an easy silence. zevran could feel cyrion’s eyes on him from the head of the table, but he ignored it, lest he mess something up in front of his grey warden. underneath the table, he slid one of his hands onto her thigh - she rested her own on top of it, slipping her fingers into the gaps between his.

“so... who is this, child?”

elsie glanced at her father. “this is zevran, father,” she told him. zevran stiffened as she said his name aloud. “he’s a friend of mine.”

“is he a... grey warden?” cyrion questioned, an eyebrow raised. elsie tore off another piece of bread and stuck it in her mouth.

“he isn’t,” she answered. “but he is as good a fighter as one, and he is loyal to the cause.”

“can he not answer for himself?”

“father...”

cyrion sighed, clasping his hands together. “i get it, i get it. i’m just trying to watch out for you. you’ve been a long time...”

elsie eyed him for a moment before nodding. “i know, father,” she responded, and the tension in the air seemed to dissipate. moments later, however, elsie elbowed zevran in the side, giving him a questioning look. it was then he noticed how tight his grip on her leg was and he loosened it, not sure why he felt so... anxious.

the rest of what they seemed to call a meal passed with idle small talk and occasional bursts of outrage from the grey warden herself, who seemed enraged about all of the happenings in alienage since she left for ostagar. zevran offered up a comforting squeeze occasionally. each time she would squeeze back.

it was funny, to see her in her home like this. she seemed so otherworldly sometimes, but here she was just... someone’s child. someone’s rebellious daughter.

as her cousins cleaned up the dishes and her father readied for bed, elsie stood up and stretched her arms high above her head, revealing a strip of skin underneath her shirt. zevran reached out and placed his hands on her hips, thumbs massaging the bare flesh. she smiled at him, pressed a kiss to his mouth, and was about to say something when her father spoke.

“i suppose you should be returning to the estate,” cyrion said. “well, it was -”

“father, what kind of daughter do you take me for?” elsie asked, crossing her arms over her chest. “i will be spending the night here.”

“but...”

“oh, there’s little work to be done at night, anyway,” she interrupted. zevran squeezed her hips playfully. she smacked his hand. “i doubt arl eamon is even awake, and even loghain needs his sleep.”

“if you think that’s wise, then you’re welcome to your old bed,” cyrion replied.

elsie smiled at him, her eyes warm. “however, i do intend to take zevran on a tour of the alienage, first,” she said. “i want to show him what it’s like when no one is out screaming on the streets. it sounds rather peaceful out right now... all things considered.”

“then go, but return soon,” her father replied. “or at least... be quiet when you do.”

elsie nodded before grabbing zevran’s hand and dragging him out of the house.

the moment the front door was closed, zevran spun her around and pinned her to the wall of her house. “i see what you’re doing,” he murmured, sinking his teeth into the soft skin of her shoulder. elsie relaxed under his touch for a moment before, surprisingly, pushing him away.

“i meant what i said,” she told him earnestly. her amber eyes were big, staring at him with a masked hopefulness only an assassin of his caliber could detect. “i.. i wanted to show you places from my childhood. only if... if you’re interested, that is.”

zevran hesitated a moment, relishing in the feeling of the small of her back underneath his palms, and then nodded. “i am very interested,” he answered, pulling his arms out from behind her. “i always wondered what life would be like outside of a whorehouse.”

elsie winced as she always did when he said the word whorehouse, but grasped his hand in hers nonetheless. “so you’ve seen my home...”

“ah, yes,” he responded. “very lovely. very quaint. there’s a strong smell of mold in one corner, but it’s better than sleeping in a tent beside oghren’s, i suspect.”

she laughed. “this is the vhenadahl,” she told him as they wandered into the alienage’s square. a grand tree stood before them, the gnarled branches reaching up like skeletal fingers towards the night sky. “it means ‘tree of the people’.”

“the people?” zevran asked. “the alienage elves?”

“all elves,” elsie answered. “we decorate it, sometimes. the children climb up in in the hot months and get chased down by the older elves. i used to do that.”

“oh, did you now?” zevran said, rubbing her hand with the pad of his thumb.

“i did,” she responded with a smile.

“ah, i guessed as much,” he teased. “a rulebreaker such as yourself is a rulebreaker from birth, no?”

elsie ascended a short set of stairs to a stage, tugging him along behind her. “this is where the formal alienage events begin,” she said next. without warning, her hand fell from his, and she moved her feet slowly across the wooden platform until she was standing near the far edge. “this... is where my wedding was to be held.”

she stared at her feet, losing herself in her thoughts. zevran allowed her a moment. to distract himself, he glanced up towards the sky, where he could see one of thedas’s moons through the leaves of the tree. the rocky ground was dappled with silvery-white moonlight and zevran watched as the gentle glow danced on the well-worn streets.

he felt a hand on his arm once more and he turned to her.

“what is the next stop on our tour, my grey warden?” he asked.

“this way,” she answered, pulling him along behind her.

he knew the alley she walked him down. they had gone through it mere hours before when they were rescuing the kidnapped elves. except she did not turn towards the apartment buildings - instead she turned towards a small fenced area behind a house. overgrown tussocks of grass waved in the midnight breeze, almost motioning for the two to pass through the gate. elsie pushed it open, wincing when she heard the gate squeak. zevran followed close behind her.

“i hope you can see it in the dim light...” she squinted at a group of stones, close to the dirt. “if not, i can show you tomorrow...”

her voice dropped when she remembered they would be back in the estate by tomorrow, preparing their final push against loghain. zevran crouched down beside her, placing a hand between her shoulder blades, looking at the stones.

and then, at once, he could see it through some yellowing strands of grass. three small carvings in the gray slab. pushing the plants aside, he noticed that it read ‘e s s’. the ‘e’ was backwards. so was the first ‘s’.

he pointed to it. elsie’s face lit up when she saw it.

“soris, shianni and i wanted the future children of the alienage to see it one day and think about who lived around here before them,” she said. “we wanted to leave it as our lasting legacy.”

“i’m sure you’re going to leave a legacy much greater than that, my grey warden,” zevran whispered. he brushed a strand of hair away from her face and drank in the sight of her features, half of her face hidden in the shadow that the roof overhead offered. before he could even think he pressed his lips against hers, his mouth hungry and restless. she smiled against him, her hands weaving into his hair. he lowered her onto the ground beneath them.

it wasn’t comfortable, but she was distracted enough that she didn’t notice. zevran worked at the ties of her shirt, occasionally dipping his thumb under the waistband of her trousers. he thought he could feel her heart beating when he moved his attention to her collarbone. he sucked and nipped at her skin.

“zevran...” she whispered, grabbing a fistful of his hair in her hand. “zevran, i...”

“you want me to stop?” zevran asked hesitantly, his teeth grazing her collarbone.

“for now,” she murmured. “we’ve had a long day.”

“mmhmm...”

he trailed gentle kisses up her neck, her jaw, and her cheek. she tasted like sweat but he didn’t mind. in fact, he was beginning to enjoy the taste of it because of her in particular. he pressed one last firm, wet kiss to her lips before straightening up and offering her his hand. “i hope your father won’t mind if i sleep in the nude,” he teased. she smacked his hand away before actually taking it, allowing him to pull her up.

“he would mind,” she said. “he might have enough of a mind to make you sleep on the street.”

“ah, but i am a friend of the famous grey warden, and his beloved daughter!” zevran protested.

“is that why you were so nervous earlier?” she murmured, squeezing his hand. “because you are my... friend?”

though he knew what she was asking, he did not feel like he had to give her that answer. she already knew, and she wanted to lure him into saying it. but she wasn’t sneaky enough, and he spotted her attempt from a mile away. “yes, isn’t that what i just told you a few days ago?” he answered. “you are my friend.”

elsie laughed, shaking her head as they walked the short path back to her home, saying nothing else after that.

she was tired.

they entered the house, which was completely black, save for a lantern burning on a short table in the corner. elsie led him over to her bed. the blanket rustled as they laid down, and the wood creaked - but no one else in the home stirred.

zevran was behind her, his back against the wall. he watched as she tucked herself under the covers, his head propped up on his elbow. he didn’t move to sleep under the blankets - these clothes were far too warm for him already, and he didn’t want to add to the beads of sweat threatening to drip down his forehead. elsie’s eyes met his.

“goodnight, zevran,” she whispered.

he lowered his head on to the pillow next to her, closing his eyes and smiling as she curled against him. “goodnight, my grey warden,” he replied, snaking an arm around her waist and intertwining their fingers as they both, at once, drifted off to sleep.

ok my post about talking about 3.0+1.0 kawoshin & kaworus development got a few likes so I’m going to ramble under the cut about mostly kawoshin & kaworu but actually about all of the pilots & the whole movie.

SPOILER WARNING FOR EVANGELION 3.0+1.0 also out of context spoilers for pmmm in the second to last paragraph I’m just comparing the two

So, first of all I’m going to say some general movie thoughts: I liked the movie, I know there are some polarizing opinions. I agree that Asuka and Mari both deserved more development and attention. However Asukas “confession” at the EoE mirrored scene really did not feel romantic to me like it felt very much just accepting that like no I do actually care about you Shinji despite always pushing you away I do want well for you and always have, but I didn’t know how to deal with that truth and my own pain at the same time. Asuka is not tsundere, she does not have romantic feelings for Shinji and never has. I will die on this hill. She may have wanted him to want her to validate herself but, thats a different can of worms.

Mari and Shinji running off together at the end, OBVIOUSLY the implication is they’re together but I feel like they intentionally left it a bit ambiguous for people who didn’t need/want to see Shinji in a romantic relationship. Like they easily could have shown her pregnant or kissing him or something and that would have been very blatant. I think the fact that she is the one who came up to him at the end instead of Asuka Rei or Kaworu is mostly fan service with a dash of letting the other three have room to be their own people separate of Shinji. Rei and Kaworu have never been their own person without their entire worlds revolving around Shinji and I think the visual of the two of them talking together at the end but still on the other side of the train station was a good way of showing like they are still relevant to Shinjis life but they get to explore their own worlds too. Obviously same goes for Asuka because she is the other side of the same coin with Shinji, she deserves to be her own person too. I also like to pretend after running off the train platform together they go to the other side & meet up with the others :)

ANYWAYS MORE ABOUT KAWORU SPECIFICALLY

I think its really interesting that almost every popular fan theory about him got confirmed in this new movie, even ones that had barely any basis in previous movies, and that they also dismissed the main popular homophobic opinion of “he was just using Shinji”. He truly wanted Shinji to be happy, because he wanted that to be enough to make himself happy. & I genuinely think he was aware and fully willing to keep living the loop for Shinji infinitely but Shinji recognizing the loop existing and acknowledging all that Kaworu had done for him already was also extremely releasing. Probably freed him from something he didn’t even know was trapping him at all. Kaji and Kaworus father/son moment was really sweet as well considering Kaworu is his own parents and has never known any kind of family.

I also have read some online takes that Rei and Kaworu are meant to be “together” at the end? but I really dont think standing next to one another constitutes a romantic relationship LOL. They’re definitely still/always siblings in my book. I also would like to think all the pilots kept their memories from the rebuild timeline, Kaworu keeping them from every timeline & Shinji having a blurry understanding of the existence of multiple timelines but not every detail.

I wonder if this implies Kaworu and Rei are fully human, I’m not sure how that works. Maybe he still is Tabris but angels pose no threat without evas anymore so he can just live amongst them like anyone else.

I also wanted to say like PMMM is another one of my dearest animes and something about Shinji pulling the Goddoka card to rewrite the universe without evas (without witches) but Yui facing the burden for him is so sweet. I can’t see it going any better way. Unit 01 obviously was taking as much damage for Shinji all along and her being able to be his final release from that pain is just, I don’t know how it could do any other way. I also don’t think I could handle it if it was exactly the same as PMMM and no one remembered Shinji. Shinji my beautiful baby boy who represents hope for humanity?? Completely forgotten?? thats too much even for me 😩 also this is a side note: I am absolutely in no way a Gendo apologist but I really appreciated him getting his loose ends tied off too, for Shinjis sake mostly. I don’t think Evangelion could have ended without Shinji gaining understanding for his father. Shinji understanding his father is another important aspect of Shinji representing humanity. It probably also allowed him to heal a little from Kaworu being “just like my father” like yeah, we all are, a little bit he’s also just a guy just like you. Gendo is the absolute tail-end of the spectrum of losing your hope and your humanity. The visual of Shinji using the lance of hope and Gendo using despair is obvi a very classic anime trope but I still liked it. Gendo losing Yui and letting it destroy him and Shinji losing Kaworu but using that to move forward and grow and keep Kaworu alive in spirit (also in real life but he didn’t know that at that point obvi). Chefs kiss.

anyways Shinji and Kaworu get a house together and live happily ever after :) idk I haven’t thought much about how they would live on post movie but I feel like the whole group would all be good friends + Toji and fam + Kensuke too of course. I could do a whole nother post about Toji and Kensuke 😫 I have so many feelings for evangelion lmk if u wanna hear LOL

- brynjar aeducan has a daughter instead of a son with mardy but still works with bhelen to get them both raised into nobility + happily co-parents with her. he names his daughter after runa brosca, who was the person to convince him to put his revenge seeking against bhelen aside in order to better orzammar.

- guinevere cousland has an adoptive older sister, who was the child of her uncle and an elven sailor aboard eleanor’s ship ‘the mistral’ back when she was the seawolf. rosalind mac eanraig has been guinevere’s lady in waiting, and later when she’s crowned queen, acts as her confidant and is believed by many who know of her to be the true ruler, acting through a less experienced alistair and guinevere.

- danytriel surana and theodore amell are thicker than thieves, with theodore helping raise a young danytriel in the circle. when he went through the eluvian with morrigan, she came with, her lover jowan in tow. morrigan only minded a little. danytriel and kieran are very close. 

- neva tabris has and always will carry memories of hallonin mahariel and his ultimate sacrifice. there’s a small sapling planted in the alienage in his honor, and she visits it frequently. 

- the twin champions freya and jasper hawke have matching nose scars, jasper gaining his after being attacked by bullies when he was young, and freya cutting herself to match in an attempt to comfort him. while the scars have mostly faded, they still will do the iconic blood swipe to mimic it, a sign of their eternal bond.

- nessa lavellan lost her fiance in the conclave blast. she doesn’t feel comfortable talking about him, and the only one who knows of her heartache is cole. 

- vera trevelyan wasn’t the same after the conclave blast.. because she wasn’t. possessed, then merged with by a hungry desire demon, it was vera, not justinia, who pulled the others from the rubble, picking survivors to feed off their hopes and desires. it later ends up developing genuine human emotions, and doesn’t know how to react.

then there’s a few i haven’t fully developed yet (kas adaar, nascha cadash, and finnegan who were all other attendants of the conclave but i dont know what im doing with them yet lol)

hi !! omg no don't apologize and i live for talking abt my ocs so !!! thank u for indulging me........... Sorry for taking so long to answer btw, I wanted to doodle a little something to go with this and i didn't have much time before !!

shianni and soris do exist in gigi's canon, they have the same backstory as in-game !! the only difference is that they all live together and they're slightly younger than her. While Gigi is around 21-22 yo, I imagine Shianni and Soris to be around 18-19 yo, Soris being the youngest.

When both shianni and soris parents died, adaia and cyrion took them in, and they were all raised as siblings ! A shift in their relationship happened when Adaia was killed, while they used to see each other as uuuh sort of equals, Gigi became the Person In Charge and assumed ( well, more like was shoved into ) both the roles of the Eldest Daughter(tm) and Maternal Figure(tm). They have sometimes a weird dynamic going on, as together they will get into some Fun Hijinks, fight just like sibz do etc, but like taken independently, let's say if soris has caused some troubles, people will complain about it to gigi, and if Shianni or Soris have a Problem, they will look for Gigi's guidance/comfort first ?????? YOU KNOW ?????

shianni is highly perceptive and probably the person who can read gigi the better in the whole world lmao ( and it’s reciprocal ) sometimes they just look at each other and they Know. They just Know(tm). They’re very close, and being two girls from ( almost ) the same ages, they share a billion secrets and stories that are better...... forgotten......... When Gigi comes back to the alienge, the reunion is a bit awkward? Shianni is very troubled by Gigi's return, like YES she's happy !! the sister she thought she lost is alive !!!!! but she's also angry because Gigi didn't tell her she was still alive, and she did no write them letters, she disappeared just like that, and Shianni felt so guilty about what happened and she needed Gigi so so much, and when Shianni sees her after such a long time, she knows her goofy and gentle gigi has changed but she can't put her finger on how and what but from the glimpse she caught, it scares her a bit, it scares her because what happened ( and Gigi’s intense feelings of guil anbd remorse about what happene dto shianni are another story, but it doesn’t make their reconnection easier ). It will take them a little while and a lot of talking before they got comfortable around each other again. Regarding Gigi's new friends, Shianni is pretty cold toward the humans but tolerate sten, shale, zevran and morrigan, to a certain extent.

soris is EXTREMELY overprotective of gigi ( and shianni too ! ), he was babied and spoiled so so much by her when they were younger ( he's still is, in a sort of way ), now he has this weird mind of “repaying” her and being the one in charge now ( playing the big boy uh............... ), and it was kinda enhanced by cyrion and his "ur the man of this household u gotta protect the one u love" ideas big yikes yikes i know  !!!! ( which also kinda make him feel even more guilty about the ruined weddings thank u cyrion and patriarchy ). When Gigi's back to the alienage, just like shianni he's happy but he does sense that Gigi has changed in many ways and it makes him a bit anxious tbh. He doesn't vibe with anyone in the party at first, and event though he's thankful they helped them thru that whole unrest in the alienage mess, he's still very VERY wary of them ( and dont get him started on zevran lmao ). Tbh he will never act ill towards them, and anything """petty""" he might do makes him just looks like a spoiled brat, like, the most extreme thing he could do is giving alistair a spoon instead of a fork ....................... i mean, he's a tabris so not very bright and a bit of a weirdo he is hmmmmm

anyway this got very long but i’m super passionnate about Soris, Shianni and Gigi, I love them so much sobs here’s them as babies and thank you again for asking me abt them !!!

How I feel about this character

I love this nerd 💕 he’s a dork but he’s also very intelligent, empathetic and optimistic about the world, even when he has so many reasons not to! He’s been through so much and it would be easy for him to be bitter or resentful but he’s not. He’s also developed his own thoughts and opinions on mages and Templars despite being raised and indoctrined with and by their ideology, which is more than a lot of people in ferelden have done

All the people I ship romantically with this character

I actually don’t really ship Alistair with anybody specifically but I’m a huge sucker for things where he gets to be happy and loved. Ive read some super cute Zevran x Alistair fics though and I ship him more with Cousland wardens than the others (but I’ve also only done the Cousland and Tabris Origins so I don’t reeeeally know the others as well outside of fandom stuff). And I love the idea of him and Anora working together and slowly developing feelings for each other. Ironically considering my answers are ‘Cousland’ and ‘Anora’, in the only play through I’ve finished, my Cousland dumped him for Zevran (broke my heart :( ) and i made Anora queen by herself...

My non-romantic OTP for this character

100% my Cousland. In my headcanon, they connected really well and bonded over shared experiences living in castles and around nobility, and started the romance but realised it wasn’t working and settled for just best friends instead. Could be just a general warden thing but my current warden is very distrustful of him. I kind of see him getting along with everyone though rather than specifically getting along with one person! I like the idea of him and Wynne bonding over practical skills like sewing and cooking.

My unpopular opinion

I struggled here actually haha. But eventually I thought of the jokes about Alistair cooking and I dont think he’s a bad cook actually! I think he’s just used to preparing large quantities of food with supplies that are readily available bc that’s what the Wardens would need.

One thing I wish had/would happen

I wish Alistair got to confront Arl Eamon and Isolde about how he was treated growing up. I know Isolde potentially dies so he wouldn’t get that chance after that and even if she doesn’t, she may have lost her son and he wouldn’t want to be a dick but man, he experienced so much trauma and abuse as a kid and he doesn’t get to ever say anything about it and from memory, the warden never gets the chance to be like ‘dude that’s fucked up, I’m so sorry’.
